Swimming History:

I started competing at the age of 7 for the Northeast YMCA Mariners. Just prior to my 7th grade year OMNI started, and I began swimming for its senior program. I then swam for Tartan High School, followed by St. Olaf College. I now train with OMNI’s seniors and on my own at Lifetime Fitness.

I began teaching swimming for the school district when I was 16 and coaching for OMNI when I was 17. I've now been coaching since 2001 and love every minute of it!

Why I Coach for OMNI:

“Swimming has been the backbone of my life and there is nothing better than sharing the passion and achievement I’ve known through the pool with new, young swimmers! OMNI has given me a few special opportunities that I wouldn’t get elsewhere. As a smaller club, I get the pleasure of knowing all the swimmers and their families, whether in my group or not. This helps me meet my main goal as a coach: to teach swimmers the skills they need in order to live a fulfilling, healthy life. These skills reach far beyond the pool and include outdoor team activities, nutrition education, addressing the importance of sleep, and setting goals. These topics, along with a strong focus on stroke technique, help maintain healthy joints, muscles, and minds—three things swimmers need in order to be strong competitors. My swimmers are encouraged to participate in other sports and activities at school while learning to manage their time; the size of the club actually allows for me to show my support by attending their plays, concerts or games. My hope is that my swimmers will know how to lead a satisfying, active life long after the time of competitive team sports gives way to individual fitness”
