Each year, prior to the start of our Winter Season, the OMNI Swim Club hosts a one-week, three-day mini-camp for new and prospective swimmers. The purpose of the camp is to provide intersted swimmers and their parents with an over-view of the OMNI Swim Club and give them a taste of what competititve swimming is all about.

In 2009, our Mini-Camp will be held on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, September 14th. 16th and 18th at Skyview Community School from 5:30 - 7:00 PM. On Monday, registration for the camp begins at 5:00 PM and the swimmers will begin swimming at 5:30 PM. On Wednesday night, there will be a short question and answer session for parents beginning at 5:45 PM.

While all swimmers with a desire to compete are welcome at the camp, past experience has shown that swimmers who have passed Level 4 in Red Cross Swimming or Fish in YMCA swimming are the best candidates for joining our club. By the end of the camp, you will be notified which group our coaches suggest your swimmer register for. Generally, Level 4 or 5 in Red Cross and Fish in YMCA swimmers are recommended for our Rookie program while stronger swimmers (Level 6 or 7 in Red Cross or Flying Fish and Sharks in YMCA) are often recommended for our Age Group Program. If your child has not taken swimming lessons or you do not know what level your child has passed, our coaches will evaluate their skills.

The cost for the camp is $30.00. This fee is paid on the first night of the camp.

Now for a brief over-view of the camp schedule. On the first night, our coaches will work with the swimmers on the long-axis strokes, Freestyle (front crawl) and Backstroke, as well as flip turns.

On the second night, our coaches will work on the short axis strokes, Breaststroke and Butterfly, and racing starts from the blocks.

On the final night, we will host a brief swim meet for the campers. At this session, we will have younger, current OMNI swimmers who will demonstrate races and the campers will be allowed to race as well. This has always been the favorite night as far as the campers are concerned and we encourage all campers to compete in at least one race (many often compete in several races).
